Powder Room (final update)

The powder room project is officially finished. I was waiting for my Shutterfly project to arrive. I could not be more pleased with the art work and the whole powder room.

It may be small but the new configuration works wonderfully. There is room in front and even around the toilet. And you can actually stand comfortably in front of the sink.

Other features that are special:
  • the wall treatment behind the radiator (I used self-stick vinyl floor tiles that look like dark marble
  • the mirror is a charger plate
  • the shelving is a corner stand hung on the wall to serve as counter and towel rack
  • the back splash is a vinyl wall sticker from Wallmonkeys (see previous post
The photo art work is a photograph of a burned out area in the Boundary Waters from our 2013 trip. It is rendered on metal.

Flying kites to celebrate a birthday

I have a great group of friends who are willing to participate in some wild ideas. This year's Lake Harriet Kite Festival was on my birthday so I thought that would a fun event. Not only would we fly kites but we would make our own kites.

I made a kite using help from YouTube earlier in the week. I hosted breakfast at my house and then we made three more kites. It was challenging and fun.

I ordered wrapping paper from Shutterfly that I designed from photos of me and friends. Absolutely love love this paper.

Frankie helps hold the paper in place.

On Lake Harriet with our kites.

It flew for a few seconds before the cross-stick snapped.
Some of the successful commercial kites. There were lots of kites and lots of people out on the lake. It was so beautiful in many ways.

Another addition to the new living room

I finally decided on a way to display some of my underwater photography. ShutterFly let's you configure a series of photos as a wall display.

The photos (12x12) arrived last week. The wall template has not arrived yet and I wanted them closer than in the template anyway so I decide I would hang them on my own. How difficult could it be to hang 6 12x12 photos in two rows of three so that they are perfectly aligned??

REALLY DIFFICULT!!

Living Room Furniture Update

I solved the desk/side table with a piece of furniture I already had. It is my Dad's table from the Philippines. It has turned legs with metal claw toe feet. In my mind it was square but it is actually a small rectangle. It is a bit wobbly but fits perfectly and brings in a piece of history to the room.

Additionally, I've been wanting to put up some of my photos but never felt I really had the wall space. The new furniture has a much lower profile which made the little bit of wall space more apparent (and bare).

My first piece is the Eiffel Tower photo that has such a special effect look. I used Shutterfly to make a photo-on-canvas. It turned out great I think. You can see the piece in the first photo above. Here is a closer look.
