Winter to Spring

The time of year when it is usually warm enough during the day to enjoy the sun but still cold enough that the ice is still on the lakes.

It was chilly today but sunny. Some trees are definitely showing signs of Spring.

It is cold!

Everyone (my family) expects that it is always cold in Minnesota. That is, of course, not true. But today is definitely not helping with the myth.

It was -10 at my house this morning (got to -11 before sunrise). And it was -18 at the airport.

There wasn't any wind to speak of so the three block walk to work wasn't too bad.

I was able to do the boiling water trick again!

Crazy lightening

This is from last Wednesday. We had another crazy storm. The lightning was fantastic and so was the thunder. I thought for sure you would be able to hear it but all you can hear is the pouring rain.

End of the deep freeze

Two more mornings of below zero temps. Monday did get above zero for a bit. Today, Tuesday, is forecast for above zero but still single digits.

By the weekend the forecast is for normal or above temps. Which means in the 20's.

Hopefully we will get some snow. There is still snow on the ground but not much.

Ok, it is my birthday and the coldest day of the year.

Today's morning temperature at the airport -14. My weather station reported  -7 in Uptown. And I tried the boiling water experiment (see video).

Great horoscope for my birth date.

Grappel

It is actually called graupel...it is kind of like ice pellets or snow pellets. And mixed with rain.  Right after I took these pictures there was a clap of thunder.
