Spring Green, Wisconsin. American Players Theatre

It has been several years since I joined the trip to Spring Green, Wisconsin, and the American Players Theatre. It was a good trip where I got to meet new friends and catch up with old ones.

We saw "Ring Round the Moon" in the hilltop theater. It was very enjoyable though the mosquitos were not. Rose and I were surprised to see Barbara Kingsley in the play. Barbara is an actor from back in my Guthrie Theater days.

Here are some photos from the weekend....

Annual Spring Green, Wisconsin American Players Theatre trip

It has taken me nearly a week to recover from this Year's Spring Green trip. I am getting old.

I drove from Door County to Tomah, Wisconsin to meet friends on their way to Spring Green. Tomah is the traditional stop for lunch and groceries.

The Spring Valley Inn has had a bit of a refresh with cleaned up landscaping and best of all, new mattresses.

Saturday morning we drove to Madison to attend a Wisconsin public radio program called "What Do Ya Kmow". It is an interview and kind of game show. Dave got to be on air as he asked the host, Michael Feldman, where to get quarters for the parking garage. Michael gave Dave quarters. It was lots of fun.

We toured the farmers' market surrounding the capitol building and had lunch at a brew pub.

We saw "The Importance of Being Ernst" this year. It was a beautiful, evening and a fun show. The start of the third act had to compete with a pair of whip-poor-wills sing into the woods.

While I was away, I asked friends Martha and Kay to stop by my house to pick raspberries and currants and to weather the potted plants. Martha captured this photograph of Frankie.

Spring Green, Wisconsin

Bernstad's Pub, Tomah
Another 'funtastic' road trip to Spring Green, Wisconsin.  There were 10 adventurers this year. A bigger group than we have had in a while.  We left the Twin Cities around 10am Friday and made our usual stop at Bernstad's in Tomah.  We caused quite a stir when we played a version of musical chairs to taste-test everyone's desserts.

Sam and Maddie's in Dodgeville
We stayed in Dodgeville this year.  There weren't enough rooms at a usual place in Spring Green.  For dinner we went to Sam and Maddie's at the Don Q Inn.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesen
Some in the group were going to have to leave super early on Sunday so we decided to have breakfast at The Shed in Spring Green on Saturday morning.  This is another of our usual stops.

A big group event this year was to tour Taliesen, the amazing home of Frank Lloyd Wright in Spring Green. We had a great tour guide and a beautiful day. The group split up after the Taliesen tour. Some of us returned to Spring Green to shop. Some went to New Glarus to tour a local craft brewery.
Picnic at American Players Theatre
The American Players Theatre show this year was Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. It was very funny and interesting though some didn't care for it.

Spring Green road trip

Past weekend was the annual Spring Green, Wisconsin, road trip.  This year we saw a Saturday matinee performance of "The Royal Family" at American Players Theatre.  Here we are picnicing after the performance.

Dave and Rose both had brought garden grown cucumbers so we decided to have cucumber sandwiches.  It was a very nice meal and so much fun.

Spring Green, Wisconsin

This weekend was the annual road trip to Spring Green, Wisconsin to see a show at American Players Theatre and generally have fun and relaxation.  It was a great trip.

This year were Dave, Me, Rose, Kathy, Meagan and Michael.

Meagan and Michael drove up from Iowa City.

You can't make a trip to Wisconsin without picking up some beers. We made a usual stop at Burnstad's in Tomah and made our own six pack with mostly Wisconsin beers...theSchell's Snowstorm is a Minnesota beer.

We saw "The Circle" by Somerset Maugham. It was a chilly night at the top of the hill.

During the day we went to House on the Rock. It takes a blog entry all on its own which will come when I get back from Denver this week.
