Up North

Took a long-ish weekend trip up north to Jenny and Andrew's cabin. I left really early Friday morning in the middle of a big big snow storm! Traffic going north was not bad but the driving conditions were. At one point I could not see if there would be a vehicle in front of me or not. And Interstate 35 was down to one good driving lane. What would normally take about a five hour drive was 7 1/2 hours. But I do take my time and stopped several times for coffee and restroom.

A lot of ice on Lake Superior. These ice flows were all the way up to Two Harbors.

There was tons of snow up north and especially around Jenny and Andrew's cabin. The road had been plowed the week before so we were able to get all the way to the cabin with our all-wheel drive Escapes.
Saturday was an absolutely beautiful day. The sun is shining through the frosted trees. We went skiing at Lutsen. Jenny and I went on our second snowshoe hike.
And you can see how beautiful the sun set was as the light streaks across Gust Lake.

The drive home was smooth sailing. It was raining in Lutsen which cleaned the truck a little bit. There were so many deer along Highway 61...both dead and alive. Also passed two bald eagles that were just standing by the road.
