The lone azalea

I moved the two azalea plants from the front yard to the back yard last year in hope they would survive.  They were languishing in the front yard.

They are both alive though only this one bloomed this year.

It may look dramatic in this close-up photo but this single set of blooms looks a bit lonely.

Very pretty color though and the plants are still alive so we are happy.

Garage Sale

My neighbors Sari and Mather hanging out in the garage near the end of the sale last Saturday.

It was a rainy day so thank goodness Sari and Mather's garage was very clean and open.  Sari had invited me to join them in our neighborhood's Super Sale.

We had a good turnout and sold a lot of the stuff.  They had furniture and I had various smaller things.

Thanks to all who stopped by and especially to those who purchased.

Spring is springing

The rabbitt-tulip-squirrel battle continues.  I think the only way to really get the upper edge is to plant more.

The ones that are surviving the attacks are truly beautiful

This is Rock Cress Arabis or common name "Snowfix" - ironic, heh?

There are two next to each other in the new bed created by the patio project.

This is just one plant is probably a 1 1/2 feet in diameter.  I love these two.

Nothing like a Bleeding Heart to represent Spring.

I've doctored this picture to blur out the house in the background.  This Bleeding Heart is a relative of the original one I got from my neighbor when I moved into the house.

That one died but fortunately I'd given some of the babies to Martha who then gave me this one a couple of years ago.

It has come full circle....like Spring!

Mallard couple back

The mallard duck couple are back.  Or at least were over the weekend.

Nice to see their return.

The Experiment

I am tired of the rabbits eating my plants and especially my tulip blooms.

Last year Kay recommended marigolds to keep the rabbits away and they seemed to work.  I planted pots of them. Now it is too early for marigolds so I'm trying an experiment.

The picture is shows my supplies - my laboratory. I brewed dried marigold flowers and seeds to make a "tea."

I added a little bit of dishwashing soap so that the "tea" sticks to the plants. I sprayed the tea on the tulips and other plants I want the rabbits to stay away from.

To be honest I in not sure if it is working. I may have lost more the blooms but this last spraying seems to have worked better.

A day at the theatre

Rose, James and I had a wonderful outing to the Guthrie to see Arsenic and Old Lace starring Sally Wingert -- pictured.

We got to meet up with Sally and Martha Kulig, Stage Manager Arms and the Man, following the performance.

The show was fun and funny.  Catching up with Rose, James, Sally and Martha was even more fun.
And we found out we had TWO Minnesota State gold medalists in Humerous Interpretation. James won in 1974 and Sally won in 1970. (I hope I got those years correct.)

James gold medal was for interpreting a scene from Arsenic and Old Lace.
