2020 Ginko Tree Leaf Drop

The annual leaf drop has occurred. Temperatures were in the range to start the drop...usually 24-26. If you listen carefully to the video, you can hear the leaves dropping. It is kind of peaceful.

The short video is available here.

Previous leaf drops:
In 2016 there wasn't a leaf drop.

Last year the leaf drop was a week later.

In 2018 the first leaf drop was 5 days earlier than this year.

In 2017 the leaf drop was dramatic.

Annual ginko tree leaf drop

The annual ginko tree leaf drop. The first drop was late last week. Today was the big day.

In 2018 it was October 21.
In 2017, it was  November 1st.
Looks like the latest has been November 7th.
This year looks the to be the earliest.

Annual ginko tree leaf drop - sort of

Annual ginko leaf drop after this  morning's cold temps. But for the first time only one of the three trees dropped its leaves.

The trees have gotten so large that the amount of leaves even with one tree drop is crazy!

Annual ginko tree leaf drop

It happens every year. Pretty much every ginko leaf falls of the trees on my street in well fell swoop. And this year it happened the day AFTER the street was swept by the city.

Street view six days ago.

No annual leaf drop

For several years I've been posting the annual ginko tree leaf drop. When the temperature goes below freezing, all the leaves drop at once. This year the drop has not happened because we haven't had a freeze yet and the wind has taken care of removing the leaves.

The forecast is for snow tomorrow but it probably still won't be below freezing. These roses will most likely make through the snow.

Snow and other things falling

We had a first "measurable" snow on Tuesday. Certainly nothing to be scared over. In Uptown the snow was not much more than a coating.

Then on Thursday morning the annual dropping of the ginko tree leaves occurred. As is often the case, the trees in front of my house will drop all there leaves in one big swoosh. While there doesn't appear to be a big 'swoosh' this year, it is still fun to see and watch.

Annual dropping of the ginko leaves

It happened on Thursday.  It was an overcast day but still beautiful effect of the yellow ginko leaves carpeting the sidewalk and grass.

This is the true sign of the impending winter.

The Jeffery Official Start of Fall

The annual dropping of the ginko leaves.

It was cold enough this morning to cause the trees to start dropping their leaves.  Walking to coffee was truly beautiful.  Twenty-nine degrees, no wind, bright sun...yellow, green and red leaves gently falling like giant colored snow flakes...such an amazing site.

Walked out the front door later in the morning to see the sidewalk and parked cars covered in yellow ginko leaves...ahhh.

The Three Faces of Fall

The three ginko trees in front of the house.  The closest one is almost still all green.  The next in green with lots of yellow.  The third is blazing yellow.

When the sun is shining in the evening, the sight is so beautiful.
